According to an Entrepreneurng report, farmers in certain towns in Ondo State’s Akure North Local Government Area have appealed to the state government and its security agencies for assistance after being assaulted once more by gunmen believed to be herdsmen.

The herders allegedly broke into the towns of Power Line, Ago Oyinbo, and Ala Reserves on Friday and Saturday, damaging their farms and wounding no less than eight farmers, according to the locals. This year’s attack was the second of its kind.

Again, one of the farmers, Mr. Samuel Olowolafe, spoke on the situation on Monday in Akure, the state’s capital, saying the herdsmen had continued to terrorize the locals without any opposition.
However, Olowolafe pointed out that the farmers had suffered property losses from the herdsmen attack totaling millions of naira.

 “These Fulani herders wanted to take over our farmlands, and that’s actually what occurred to us over the weekend. They attacked us in the middle of the night with their rifles and other lethal weapons, taking our belongings like phones and food, among other things.”

At midnight, they continued their heinous act. Our lives are in danger, hence the state government and security agencies are kindly requested to intervene and give us with proper security at Powerline and Ago-Oyinbo in Ala Forest Reserve.

At the time this report was filed, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police public relations officer, was unable to corroborate the event since she had not yet received a briefing from the divisional police officer for the area.
