Following the weekend presidential election, the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State has advised politicians to abstain from any acts of violence. It stressed that only God can grant victory, noting that a politics of do-or-die does not ensure success, Entrepreneurng report.
The group also asked Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, and other elected officials to put the welfare of the nation and its people first. The Independent National Electoral Commission pronounced Tinubu the victor of the presidential election on February 25 on Wednesday.
The religious leaders urged elected officials to uphold the state’s current level of calm and abstain from using violence after elections.
As the nation prepared for the gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections, the body also advised politicians and other stakeholders to proceed cautiously.
The organization asked Nigerians to vote for and support candidates who have the skills and qualifications necessary to advance the states.
It read, “When the political campaign picks back up leading up to the upcoming elections, we ask the politicians to uphold the tranquility enjoyed in the state and abstain from violence in their campaign, during the elections, and afterward.
We also exhort Nigerians to vote in large numbers for the candidates they believe have the skills and credentials necessary to advance the nation’s states.
“A politics of do-or-die does not ensure success; only the All-Powerful Allah grants victory to whomever He pleases.
The group congratulated Tinubu on his victory and urged people and political parties to accept the results of the election in good faith and work for Nigeria’s peace, progress, and development.
Following the end of the presidential and National Assembly elections, the people and political parties are urged to accept the results in good faith and work together for the peace, progress, and development of our beloved nation.
We also implore the incoming president and other elected officials to embrace victory with humility, work with rival candidates in nation-building, and prioritize the advancement of the nation and its people.
“The newly elected leaders should always take into account how their actions will affect the country’s masses, but they should also act rapidly to find measures to lessen the suffering of the already impoverished masses.”
The group pleaded with Muslims and religious authorities to continue praying for ongoing serenity, progress, and peace in Ogun State and the rest of the nation.
To create a bigger and more comfortable and successful Nigeria, it pledged to offer special prayers during the Jummah ceremony throughout the state for the President-elect to have more knowledge, strength, direction, provision, and protection.
In conclusion, prayers will be offered specifically at the Jummah service throughout the state for greater wisdom, strength, guidance, provision, and protection for the president-elect, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the task ahead toward a greater and more comfortably prosperous Nigeria.
