Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 and a former Miss South Africa Top 10 finalist, has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. Governor Peter Mbah announced the appointment during her homecoming, praising the 23-year-old model for her resilience, which he said reflects the spirit of Enugu’s people.
Adetshina expressed her deep gratitude for the honour on Instagram, revealing that winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title came after a challenging period in her life. She had withdrawn from the Miss South Africa pageant in August due to controversy surrounding her nationality. Still, she found success upon returning to Nigeria to compete in Miss Universe Nigeria, where she claimed the crown.
“I had the honour of meeting Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah during my homecoming, where I was appointed as the brand ambassador of Enugu State. I am deeply grateful for all I have achieved in my father’s land. Nigeria, thank you for lifting me when I was down,” she shared in her post.
In his statement, Governor Mbah highlighted Adetshina’s connection to her roots, as she hails from Amurri in Nkanu West LGA. Despite many challenges, he emphasized that her journey to success showcases the determination and strength typical of the people of Enugu. He added, “Her achievement reflects the grit and perseverance we, as Ndi Enugu, are known for. I am incredibly proud to welcome her back home.”
Mbah also noted that Adetshina’s story should inspire young people, particularly women, as she embarks on initiatives to support youth development and empowerment. As the new ambassador, she will work closely with the state government on various programs.
“As Chidimma prepares to represent Nigeria and Enugu at the Miss Universe 2024 competition in Mexico, she carries our full support and pride. We are confident that she will shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience,” Mbah said.
Since being crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina has been actively involved in several engagements nationwide. She recently visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Karonmajigi, Abuja, where she connected with children and families displaced by conflict and disaster.
Alongside a video of her visit on Instagram, she wrote: “It was an amazing experience connecting with the children and the internally displaced people.”
In addition to her humanitarian work, Adetshina, a law student, marked Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1st with a special photoshoot. Wearing a white beaded gown and a traditional gele headwrap, she shared her thoughts on the day’s significance: “As Miss Universe Nigeria, I represent a nation rich in cultural diversity and historical heritage. Independence Day is a celebration of unity, love, and strength. Let us appreciate the beauty and freedom of our great nation. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!”
Adetshina will represent Nigeria at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Mexico on November 16, 2024, where Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor.
