In the last year, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg’s personal fortune has plummeted to $76.8 billion, knocking him out of the top ten richest people in America. He is now ranked 11th on The Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest people in the United States.
In 2008, four years after founding Facebook, Zuckerberg became the first billionaire. He was the youngest self-made billionaire ever when he debuted at No. 321 on The Forbes 400 with a $1.5 billion net worth at the age of 23. By 2011, Zuckerberg’s net worth had more than doubled to $17.5 billion.
Despite popular belief that Mark Zuckerberg dislikes opulence and prefers wearing plain grey T-shirts and unadorned watches, you might be surprised to learn that the 38-year-old billionaire actually leads a very opulent lifestyle.
According to TechCrunch, he allegedly owns a portfolio of real estate worth US$320 million and was once rumored to have purchased the stunning Ulysses yacht for US$150 million.

1. Mark Zuckerberg’s US$116 million opulent California mansions
According to the New York Post, Zuckerberg and his family currently reside in an opulent home in Palo Alto, California that he initially purchased for US$7 million in 2011.
Taking into account the renovations and the purchase of the four nearby homes, which the famous family uses as guest houses and recreational facilities, he spent over US$50 million in total.
A few years later, according to The Wall Street Journal, Zuckerberg quietly spent $59 million on two waterfront properties on Lake Tahoe, California.
2. Mark Zuckerberg’s US$1.4 million Pagani Huayra
His prized possession is a Pagani Huayra, a two-seat super-exclusive car with butterfly-style doors, swanky exteriors, and performance on par with Lamborghinis and Ferraris, which sells for US$1.4 million. This beast of a car has an exclusive twin-turbo V12 engine that produces a whopping 800 horsepower at 5900 rpm and 1,050 nm of torque from 2000 to 5600 rpm.
3. Mark Zuckerberg’s US$27 million in security and private jets
According to Bloomberg, Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook, spent more than $15 million on security for its CEO in 2021, both at home and while traveling.
This ridiculous cost of protecting Zuckerberg excludes the US$10 million pre-tax allowance for the security of his family and the US$1.6 million for his personal use of private jets.
4. Mark Zuckerberg’s US$186 million land in Hawaii
Zuckerberg paid a staggering US$116 million for 286 hectares (707 acres) of land on the Hawaiian island of Kauai in 2014, according to Forbes.
According to SF Gate, Zuckerberg purchased nearly 245 hectares (600 acres) of land on Kauai’s North Shore in March 2021 for US$53 million to add to his opulent estate known as Ko’olau Ranch. This land included a public beach and a working cattle ranch. According to The Guardian, he paid US$17 million for 45 hectares (110 acres) of agricultural land six months later. It contains the Ka Loko Reservoir, which is still listed as one of the island’s high-risk dams.
