Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has asked opposition parties to help him in developing the state. Aiyedatiwa made the call after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) certified him the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state on Sunday. Recall that Aiyedatiwa received 366,781 votes, while Ajayi received 117,835 votes across Ondo State’s 18 local governments.
Aiyedatiwa was the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate in the election. In his acceptance address, Aiyedatiwa promised to run an all-inclusive government and praised INEC, security agencies, and all stakeholders participating in the election for their dedicated work. He also praised President Bola Tinubu for his exceptional leadership in creating a level playing field in the recently concluded election.
Aiyedatiwa later dedicated his triumph first to God and then to the memory of his former employer, late Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu. As your governor, I pledge to continue running an inclusive and participatory government in which every citizen has a voice and the opportunity to contribute to our collective progress.
“We will continue to prioritise the welfare of our people, foster economic growth, and ensurethat our state remains a beacon of hopeand prosperity for generations to come.” Now that the elections are concluded, it is time to rededicate ourselves to the service of our beloved state. “I thus want to offer a hand of fellowship to the opposition parties and welcome you to work with us in the onerous task of constructing a better Ondo State for the overall benefit of our people.
“Let usput aside our differences and work togetherto create a brighter future forourselves, our children, and ourcommunities,” according to him. In an interview with journalists following the official announcement of the results, APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje stated that the conspiracy to take over Oyo and Osun states had begun.
Ganduje expressed his satisfaction that the people of Ondo state demonstrated their support for the party through their votes. Some APC governors attended the ceremony, including Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. Others were Ekiti Gov. Abiodun Oyebanji, Borno State’s Babagana Zulum, Benue Rev. Hyacinth Alia, Edo Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Cross River’s Bassey Otu, and Imo State’s Hope Uzodinma.
