The Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (KANINVEST) has signed a $15 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with STATA Power Utility Nigeria Limited to set up a customised Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) program in the state.
This program addresses fuel pricing and transportation issues by supplying CNG and converting cars from conventional petroleum gas to CNG.
Muhammad Nazir Halliru, the Director General of KANINVEST, emphasised that the initiative aims to improve the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, encouraging a cleaner and healthier environment, and creating employment opportunities.
After STATA Power Utility Nigeria Limited establishes petrol stations, the implementation is anticipated to start within six months.
The program is in line with worldwide trends towards cleaner energy, economic development, and environmental sustainability, according to Salman Dantata, CEO of STATA Power Utility Nigeria Limited.
The program intends to minimise transportation costs, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and increase energy efficiency throughout Kano State by switching to CNG for cars from conventional fuel sources.
As part of the project, a mother station with a daily capacity of 110 metric tonnes would be established at Tamburawa, Kura Local Government Area.
Furthermore, there will be sister petrol stations with a 2 metric tonne capacity spread throughout several locations, such as Shagari Quarters, Maiduguri Road, IBB Road, and Dalladi Nasidi.
The company intends to grow to 20 stations over five years, adding more than 300 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs.
