The Ambassador of Cote d’Ivoire to Nigeria, Kalilou Traore, has disclosed that the official trade volume between the two countries has reached approximately $1.5 billion. This figure includes crude oil, with the Ivorian refinery being supplied by Nigeria. Traore highlighted the potential for further improvement, particularly in the manufacturing sector.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Traore emphasized the collaboration between Cote d’Ivoire and Nigerian entities such as business associations, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He expressed optimism about the opportunity for Cote d’Ivoire to supply products that Nigeria currently imports.
Nigeria, the largest economy in the sub-region, and Cote d’Ivoire, one of the biggest economies, have significant potential for increased trade. Traore noted the ongoing efforts to enhance trade ties and emphasized the role of collaboration in the manufacturing sector.
Both countries aim to leverage the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) to boost trade further. Additionally, the approval of funds by the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan highway is expected to facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services, promoting economic ties between the two nations.
