1974 French Ambassador is Kidnapped in the Hague
Three Japanese Red Army (JRA) members, a communist militant group formed in Lebanon, stormed the French Embassy in The Hague and kidnapped ten people, including the French Ambassador. The siege ended when the militants met their demands for the release of another JRA member, cash, and a plane.

1933 A Woman is Elected to New Zealand Parliament for the first time
Elizabeth McCombs won the by-elections for the parliamentary seat of Lyttelton, which her husband held before he died in August 1933. New Zealand extended suffrage to women in 1893.

1899 First Recorded Automobile Fatality in the US takes place
Henry H. Bliss was struck by a taxi cab while crossing the street in New York City. He died the next day due to his injuries.

1759 The Battle of Quebec is fought between the British and the French
The battle took place on Abraham Martin’s farm and was a pivotal event in the Seven Years’ War, which involved the great European powers of the time. As a result, the battle is also known as the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. General James Wolfe’s British troops defeated the French in a brief 15-minute battle and took control of Quebec. The Battle resulted in the French relinquishing control of areas in present-day Canada, and the British gaining control of the majority of North America.
