26 Sept, 2007 Myanmar’s “Saffron Revolution”
Following the monks’ participation in the protests in Burma, tens of thousands of ordinary men and women took to the streets in the so-called “Saffron Revolution.” The ruling military Junta’s response was to move against street protests by Buddhist monks and others, with riot police killing over 1,000 protesters after firing indiscriminately into crowds.

1923: Bulgaria’s Premier declares that the country will fight communist control and dominance until the end of time.
26 Sept, 1932 India Gandhi, Mahatma
1932: Mahatma Gandhi broke his death fast 6 days and 5 hours after the British Government approved most of the compromise plan on Indian Untouchables’ voting rights in legislative elections.
26 Sept, 1936 Japan Takes Control of Shanghai
1936: Japanese Marines take control of the Shanghai district of China, following the deaths of four Japanese citizens in Shanghai, and Japan declares in a statement, “we must protect our citizens.”
26 Sept, 1949 Russia Demands an End to Nuclear Weapons Development
1949: British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin rejects Russian demands to halt all nuclear weapons research and destroy all existing Atom Bombs, stating that Britain will continue its research into Atom Bomb technology.
26 Sept, 1956 Jordan vs. Israel
1956: A bloody clash between Jordanian and Israeli forces results in heavy casualties on both sides; this is the seventh such clash in a short period of time as the region becomes more unstable.
26 Sept, 1960 Nixon / Kennedy TV Debate
September 26th, 1960: The first televised debate between presidential candidates for the 1960 election took place in Chicago between Democratic nominee U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy and Republican nominee Vice President Richard Nixon. An estimated 80 million people watched the debate, or nearly half of the US population. The debate was a success for Kennedy, who was widely regarded as having won it.

1962: African-American student James Meredith attempted to register for classes at the University of Mississippi for the third time today but was denied by Governor Paul Johnson in defiance of the US Justice Department. Federal troops are expected to be sent to Mississippi to enforce the country’s laws in what is quickly becoming a case of federal versus state control.
26 Sept, 1962 U.S.A. “Beverly Hillbillies”
1962: The CBS comedy series “Beverly Hillbillies,” about a hillbilly family transplanted to Beverly Hills, California, after discovering oil on their land, premieres. It is a big hit with TV viewers and has remained the top-rated network show for two seasons.
26 Sept, 1963 U.S.A. Tax Reforms
1963: The House passed the most extensive tax reform cuts in history and will become law by the spring. The cuts will reduce income taxes by an average of 10% for every working man and woman in this country and provide additional tax relief for corporations. The tax cuts are intended to help the country exit the current recession cycle.
26 Sept, 1965 Beatles Obtain MBEs
On September 26th, 1965, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II makes John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison “Members of the Order of the British Empire.” On October 26th, the Queen bestows MBEs on the Beatles at Buckingham Palace.
26 Sept, 1969 “Chicago Seven” Trial Begins
The “Chicago Seven” trial begins in 1969; they were accused of plotting a riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. They were antiwar activists who organized protest marches and rock concerts at the Democratic National Convention, which escalated into full-fledged rioting with tear gas and police beatings. The defendants did everything they could to disrupt the trial, including reading poetry and chanting Hare Krishna.

The Beatles released the “Abbey Road Album” in the United Kingdom in 1969. (the US Release date October 1st 1969). The album is the 11th official album to be released, and some of the tracks on the album are listed below:
26 Sept, 2008 1500’s Portugese Shipwreck Found
A Portuguese shipwreck from the 1500s was discovered at the site of a Namibian diamond mine in 2008. The ship’s cargo included elephant tusks and copper ingots from all over the world. Archaeologists hailed the discovery as one of the most significant in African history and set about determining who owned the ship.

Roman Polanski, a film director, was arrested in Switzerland in 2009. The 76-year-old director faces extradition after failing to appear in court in 1977 on charges of having sex with a minor.
