1960 Assassination of the Mirabal Sisters
The three Dominican sisters, Patria, Minerva, and Antonia Mirabal were activists who opposed Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship. They were brutally murdered on this day, and their deaths were staged to appear accidental. The United Nations General Assembly established November 25 as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in 1999.

1952 Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap opens at London’s West End
The play began as a radio play called Three Blind Mice and has since become the longest-running show in history. It is inspired by Dennis O’Neill’s death while in foster care.

1950 “Storm of the century” hits eastern US
The storm, also known as the Appalachian Storm, reached blizzard levels and dumped nearly 60 inches of snow in the Appalachian region. It brought unseasonably warm temperatures to the region and caused widespread property damage. It was estimated that 150 people were killed as a result of it.

1936 Nazi Germany and Japan sign the Anti-Comintern Pact
The treaty was aimed at the Soviet Union and stated that if the Soviet Union attacked either country, the other would also consider it an act of aggression. Other countries, including Italy, Romania, Spain, and Turkey, later signed the pact.
