Google announced on Tuesday that it will acquire cloud security company Wiz for $32 billion in an all-cash deal, highlighting the growing need for enhanced cybersecurity as artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into digital infrastructure.

The acquisition will integrate Wiz into Google Cloud, expanding security capabilities for customers operating across multiple cloud platforms.

In a joint statement, the companies emphasized that the move will provide “an end-to-end security platform for customers, of all types and sizes, in the AI era.”

They also underscored how AI’s expanding influence makes “cybersecurity increasingly important in defending against emergent risks and protecting national security.”

Largest Takeover in Google’s History

This acquisition marks Google’s largest-ever deal and could test President Donald Trump’s stance on major corporate takeovers.

Under the previous Joe Biden administration, regulatory scrutiny often blocked such transactions.

Reports indicate that Alphabet, Google’s parent company, was close to acquiring Wiz in mid-2024, but the deal fell through due to regulatory challenges, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Wiz to Continue Serving Other Tech Giants

Founded in 2020 by Assaf Rappaport and a team of former Microsoft executives, Wiz has quickly become a leader in cloud security.

The company will continue providing services to platforms operated by major competitors such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

Headquartered in New York, Wiz also has offices in Tel Aviv and three other U.S. cities.

Following the announcement, Rappaport explained in a webcast that Wiz’s technology “continuously scans an organization’s code and cloud environments, monitoring them in real time” to identify and mitigate security threats efficiently.

This landmark deal reinforces Google’s commitment to bolstering cybersecurity as businesses increasingly rely on AI-driven cloud infrastructure.
