The Federal Government has confirmed the disbursement of ₦15 billion out of the ₦18 billion allocated for the first phase of compensation to property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos on Sunday, Bede Obioha, Director of Federal Highways, Bridges, and Design at the Federal Ministry of Works, disclosed that the total compensation for Section One (47.7km) exceeds ₦18 billion. He assured that compensation details for Section Two would be made public once finalised.

Minister of Works David Umahi further revealed that 30km out of the 70km stretch of Section One will be inaugurated in May 2025.

Umahi acknowledged the challenges in handling compensation, stating that legal obligations had to be met despite financial constraints. He announced plans to publish compensation details for transparency and confirmed that all Section One beneficiaries would receive full payment within 10 days.

Additionally, the minister addressed tax credit compensation for those affected at Eleko Community, confirming that ₦10 billion will be paid by mid-March 2025 as part of the Lekki Free Trade Zone development.

The government remains committed to ensuring fair compensation while progressing with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
