Elon Musk hinted that the reasons for his desire to prosecute Dr. Anthony Fauci would be revealed in a later installment of the “Twitter files.”
Musk sparked outrage on Sunday when he tweeted, “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci,” with some applauding the Twitter CEO for speaking out against the infectious disease expert and others accusing Musk of making reckless remarks and mocking the LGBT community.
Musk said “yes” when asked if his tweet about Fauci would be explained in a new Twitter Files. Working with several journalists, Musk has made documents about the inner workings of the social media behemoth available recently. These include information about how the platform suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story and decided to ban the former president Trump shortly after the 2021 Capitol riot.
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Fauci has come under heavy criticism for his advice on masking, other mitigation measures, and his theories regarding the virus’s origins. Almost all of the mainstream media’s coverage of him has been favorable.
Republicans are moving forward with their inquiries into Fauci’s “judgment,” in particular, his role in the COVID-19 pandemic‘s genesis. Although he personally thinks the pandemic was caused by a natural source, Fauci has acknowledged that it is crucial to determine what caused it and noted that the possibility of a lab leak is still on the table.
He has consistently denied funding the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s so-called “gain-of-function research,” which entails modifying a virus to make it more contagious for research purposes.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, a vocal opponent of Fauci, declared on Thursday that GOP leaders are “not done” looking for solutions and committed to holding the departing National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NAID) director accountable.
After holding the position since 1984, Fauci intends to leave this month.
Musk made his remarks following the publication of the fourth “Twitter Files” installment on Saturday. They allegedly demonstrate how, prior to Musk’s acquisition, Twitter broke its own rules by obstructing the dissemination of accurate information about the New York Post Hunter Biden laptop story before the 2020 election.
The documents also show how Twitter executives, under pressure from former First Lady Michelle Obama, created justifications to ban Trump on January 7, 2021, the day following the Capitol riot.
According to documents obtained by journalist Bari Weiss, senior Twitter executives built secret blacklists to “de-amplify” unwanted Twitter users rather than just certain tweets, effectively reducing the reach of their content on the site.
According to journalist Matt Taibbi, the files show how senior Twitter executives actively engaged with representatives of American law enforcement agencies while censoring Trump’s tweets in the run-up to the 2020 election.
