Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji said on Saturday that state employees would receive the new N70,000 minimum wage in addition to pension adjustments. At the 2024 Pensioners’ Day celebration in Ado Ekiti, which kicked off events for the Second Anniversary of his administration, Oyebanji made an announcement.
“The minimum wage has become a law binding on all states,” the governor stated, emphasising that his administration was committed to improving people’s lives. On that occasion, Oyebanji gave 829 retirees who had left their jobs between 2014 and March 2015 checks totalling N3.5 billion. He gave an overview of some of the senior citizen initiatives, such as the free health insurance program for retirees.
Oyebanji asked the retirees to keep praying for the success of his administration, explaining that more than N70 billion had been provided to cover the cost of gratuities. Kolapo Olatunji, the head of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), lavished praise on the Oyebanji-led administration for providing relief and hope to the retirees.
The state’s chief of staff, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, expressed gratitude to the retirees for their longstanding support of the administration.
Additionally, Mr. Joel Akinola, the State Chairman of the Union, and Mr. Godwin Abumisi, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), who was represented by Mr. Ayo Ikumapayi, praised the governor’s numerous accomplishments and pledged their continued support for his administration.
