The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a significant step in combating cybercrime with the recent arrest of 40 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The operation, conducted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, culminated in the apprehension of these suspects on Saturday, February, in two separate locations: Mpape, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and Keffi, located in Nasarawa State.

The arrests were made following diligent investigation and surveillance activities prompted by credible information pointing to the alleged involvement of these individuals in various internet-related offenses. Among those arrested were 38 males and two females, whose activities have reportedly been under scrutiny due to their suspected roles in perpetrating online fraud schemes.

During the operation, law enforcement agents seized several items believed to be linked to the illicit activities of the suspects. These items include two vehicles suspected to have been acquired through fraudulent means, along with a total of 56 mobile phones, four smartwatches, eight power banks, and four laptops. The recovery of these electronic devices is crucial for further forensic analysis to gather evidence against the suspects and strengthen the case against them.

In a statement issued by EFCC Spokesman Dele Oyewale, it was emphasized that the investigative process is ongoing, and once concluded, the suspects will be brought before the appropriate judicial authorities to face charges related to their alleged involvement in cybercrime. The EFCC remains committed to its mandate of combating financial crimes in Nigeria and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

The arrest of these individuals underscores the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb the proliferation of cybercrime in the country. It also serves as a warning to would-be offenders that illicit activities conducted online will not go unpunished, as law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring and taking decisive action against those involved in such criminal activities.
