Laide Bakare, a well-known Nollywood actress, has counselled young women who are ambitious about their careers to put family first when they are first starting out. In an interview on a recent Nollywood on Radio program, Bakare revealed this, emphasising that if they work on it now, they may devote the rest of their lives to advancing their careers.
“I would advise you to get married and have kids early if you are aspiring to be a superstar and successful in your career as a young girl,” she said. “So that you can devote the remainder of your years to advancing your career, as the family is of utmost importance.”
She related her own story, stating that after having her first child, she had no desire in getting married. “Maybe I should retract that since I do not mean marriage,” she uttered. I’ve never given marriage any thought.
When I gave birth to my first kid, all I wanted was a baby. The actress restated her position, saying that having a family is the main focus of her counsel rather than getting married. Laide Bakare continued, “so the advice is to start having a family instead of getting married early.”
