Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended 8,036 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency through two recent Express Entry draws, reaffirming its dedication to welcoming skilled professionals to Canada.
These draws, held on March 21 and March 17, specifically targeted candidates with French language proficiency and those with provincial nominations.
March 21, 2025 – French Language Proficiency Draw
According to Immigration News Canada (INC), the latest draw on March 21 focused on French-speaking applicants, issuing 7,500 ITAs. Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 379 to qualify.
A tie-breaking rule was applied to profiles submitted before March 6, 2025, ensuring fairness in selection. This initiative continues IRCC’s pattern of prioritizing French-speaking candidates, a trend observed in recent months.
March 17, 2025 – Provincial Nominee Program Draw
A separate draw on March 17 granted 536 ITAs to candidates who had received provincial nominations. The minimum CRS score for this draw was 736, with the tie-breaking rule set for March 12, 2025.
Provincial nominations significantly boost a candidate’s chances, adding 600 extra CRS points, making them more competitive for an ITA.
CRS Score Trends and Future Outlook
Recent CRS score distributions indicate a strong concentration of candidates within the 451-500 range, with 70,055 individuals currently in the pool.
Analysts suggest that the CRS score for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) applicants may drop below 500 by summer 2025 as more lower-scoring in-Canada candidates enter the system.
Projections also indicate that the CRS cutoff could decrease to around 490 by late spring 2025, depending on the frequency of upcoming draws.
Improving Express Entry Chances
For those who did not receive an ITA in the latest rounds, several strategies can increase their chances in future draws:
– Enhancing language proficiency: Higher language scores can boost CRS rankings by 20-30 points, especially for candidates reaching advanced Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels.
– Gaining Canadian work experience: Employment within Canada adds valuable CRS points, particularly for CEC applicants.
– Exploring provincial nominee programs: A provincial nomination grants 600 CRS points, dramatically improving selection prospects.
– Keeping Express Entry profiles updated: Ensuring accuracy in profile information helps prevent unnecessary point deductions.
