Kenneth C. Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel, has made a significant investment in his adopted hometown’s largest art museum.
In 2022, Griffin notably decided to relocate his residence and the company’s offices from Chicago to Miami. Griffin gave the Pérez Art Museum Miami (Pamm) a $10 million contribution on Saturday during its annual Art of the Party gala. The money will be used to further the museum’s purpose and expand its collection.
Kenneth Griffin had this to say, “The Pérez Art Museum Miami is a world-class arts and cultural hub that enriches our great city.
“I am proud to support this outstanding institution in unison with the broader Miami community.”
Griffin was one of the two main honourees at the gala. The other was Delcy Morelos, a Colombian artist who was awarded the Pérez Prize, which is accompanied by an unrestricted $50,000 in cash provided by Jorge and Darlene Pérez, the museum‘s namesake patrons. $1.5 million was raised at the dinner to fund the museum’s educational initiatives.
After the ceremony and meal, José Parlá, a Miami-born artist whose solo exhibition Homecoming debuts at Pamm on November 14, entertained the guests with a DJ set.
Griffin has donated substantial sums to institutions, including $40 million to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and $10 million to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. According to Forbes, Griffin’s net worth is currently over $45.9 billion.
As a collector, his tastes are also diverse. According to reports, he paid nine figures to fellow billionaire collector David Geffen for two Abstract Expressionist masterpieces by Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock.
