ABUJA—On Saturday, one of the lawyers representing the AS 10 #EndBadGovernance protestors, Mr. Deji Adeyanju, brought up the concern that Dr. Abubakar Alkali, a senior lecturer in the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at Baze University, had been detained for three weeks by the Department of State Security (DSS) because he was allegedly supporting the protest.
The Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to the protestors. Adeyanju stated: “Three weeks ago, the DSS kidnapped Dr. Abubakar Alkali, a senior lecturer in the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at Baze University, and took him to Sokoto State for his support of the #EndBadGovernance protest. Since then, he has been in detention.
Adeyanju had earlier revealed that nearly 1,000 protestors nationwide were scheduled to receive bail, but 115 protestors in Kuje prison had not yet received it. He claimed that since it is unconstitutional to detain and charge peaceful protestors, they ought to be freed without conditions.
