Airtel Nigeria has reported a significant decline in data revenue, amounting to $344 million for the nine months ending December 31, 2024, a sharp decrease from the $539 million recorded during the same period the previous year.
Despite a 37.2% increase in data usage per customer, rising to 8.4 gigabytes per month, and a 3.2% growth in its customer base, reaching 52.1 million subscribers, the company faced challenges in converting this increased demand into higher revenue.
The overall mobile services revenue for Airtel Nigeria declined by 40.34%, totalling $738 million for the nine months ending December 2024, down from $1.24 billion in the previous year.
Several factors have contributed to these financial challenges, including the steep devaluation of the Nigerian naira, escalating operational costs, and a volatile foreign exchange market.
In response, Airtel Nigeria has adjusted its pricing for voice and data services, in line with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) tariff changes, aiming to mitigate the impact of these economic pressures.
