The Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP) modular refinery is expected to start up operations by 2025, according to Commissioner for Information and Culture Mr. Okey Kanu.
He made this claim on Tuesday at a press conference regarding the conclusions of the State Executive Council meeting, which took place at Umuahia’s Government House.
According to him, the refinery would be the park’s first significant undertaking and should be up and running by the specified year.
Kanu emphasised that the refinery is expected to create many indirect work opportunities in addition to 2,000 direct job opportunities, which will help Abia’s youth population.
He said: “The project will help to provide refined products for the people of Abia as well as increase our revenue base as a state.”
“So, it is a project that is very important to this government and every effort is being put in place to ensure that the date is met.”
“The state government is also ready to reap from the petroleum and mineral endowments in the state.”
Kanu stated that investors, especially those in the petroleum industry, have expressed a great deal of interest in establishing their businesses in Abia.
He was hopeful that this move will make a big difference in the continued efforts to give young people access to the workforce.
