In order to construct a six million ton per year cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, Dangote Industries Limited claims it has signed a contract with China Sinoma International Engineering.

The agreement was signed by China Sinoma Engineering’s Group President, Yin Zhisong, and the company’s Chairman, Liu Renyue, as well as Dangote Cement Plc’s Chairman, Aliko Dangote, and the company’s Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects and Portfolio Development, Devakumar Edwin.

At the signing ceremony, Dangote stated that the integrated cement factory, when finished, will increase Dangote Cement’s capacity locally, increasing it to 41.25 million tons annually and bringing its capacity throughout all of Africa to 57.6 million tons annually.

He said that the Itori Cement Plant would boost Nigeria’s ability to export cement and allow for greater economic diversification and foreign currency inflows.

Dangote claimed that the project would boost the local economy by generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs as well as propel Itori axis economic growth.

He said that ancillary businesses would be attracted to the axis and would be looking to take advantage of the cement plant’s position to offer goods and services to employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.

In spite of the fact that there are plenty of raw materials available for creating such things locally, he continued, building the new cement factory was in accordance with the company’s objective of producing locally created goods that were previously imported.
