Following the success of the Alaghodaro Investment Dinner in Lagos, big-ticket investors such as Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group; Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings; and Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola, Chairman of Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc, are set to converge on Edo State for the 2022 Alaghodaro Economic Summit, which will be held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The Alaghodaro Summit, now in its sixth year, commemorates Governor Godwin Obaseki’s first year in office and highlights the state’s progress toward becoming an investment haven.
The three-day conference will take place from November 11 to 13, 2022, with the topic “Edo’s Transformation: Partnerships, Resilience, Impacts.”
Over the last five years, the summit has drawn over $ 2 billion in investments into the state, including $500 million under the Edo State Oil Palm Programme (ESOPP). Saro Africa Group of Companies has also begun a $250 million investment in the state through its Integrated Agricultural Project.
Another notable project is the $10 million Edo Refinery. In addition, investments are being made in the technology, creative, manufacturing, food processing, and energy sectors, among others.
Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor of Edo State on Media Projects, stated in a statement: “This year’s edition will provide another fine opportunity to consolidate on years of building a vibrant private sector-led economy, showcasing investment opportunities in Edo State, and providing a pivot for sustainable development and economic prosperity for the state.”
The event will begin with the Edo Summit at 9 a.m. on Friday in the New Festival Hall in Government House, Benin City, followed by a State Banquet at 6 p.m. at the Edo Hotel Marquee, according to Osagie.
“There will be a Golf Tournament on Saturday, November 12, at the Benin Golf Course by 7 am. The day-two of the summit will end with a Stage Play, ‘Hear Word’ at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Benin City by 2 pm.
“On Sunday, November 13, being the last day of the summit, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City by 10 am. The summit will finally come to a close with the launch of the Digital Benin Website at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage, Benin City by 2 pm,” he added.
