The 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results were seized in large quantities, according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), due to widespread examination cheating (WASSCE).
In order to refute media rumors that the top examination umpire purposefully withheld the results of applicants who took the exam, Patrick Areghan, the head of the WAEC national office, stated this on Thursday, September 15.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports in some quarters of how the council was deliberately withholding results of candidates of some states in the country. “This, I will say, is wicked, malicious, misleading, and a calculated attempt to drag the name of the council into the mud or disrepute. It is utter ignorance,” he said.
He stated that WAEC would make sure that the non-guilty candidates saw their results after its investigations were complete.
Areghan further revealed that the WAEC had heard that certain interested parties were planning to sue the examination council for their activities.
The council is still willing and ready to continue its strong connection with stakeholders, he responded, therefore it isn’t at all essential.
He emphasized that WAEC will not compromise its policies or standards in order to appease any interested party.
“We stand by our rules and regulations. We will always apply the same set of laws all over the country, no matter what it takes or who is involved.
“We will never apply different sets of laws for different states in the country, or give any preferential treatment to any candidate, school, or state for that matter,” he said.
