In a major step toward preserving corporate memory and celebrating decades of operational excellence, ABC Transport Plc has officially unveiled its Historic and Archive Centre at its corporate head office in Owerri, Imo State.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Thursday April 30, 2026, formed part of activities marking the birthday of the company’s Founder, Mr. Frank Nneji (OON), and commemorating 33 years of continuous innovation in Nigeria’s transport and logistics sector.
Founded on February 13, 1993, ABC Transport Plc has evolved from a pioneering road transport operator into one of West Africa’s most recognised logistics and mobility brands. Over the years, the company has built a reputation for innovation, operational discipline, and service delivery across passenger transport, cargo services, haulage, and regional logistics operations.
The newly commissioned Historic and Archive Centre is designed to document and preserve the company’s long history of growth and transformation. It houses a wide collection of artefacts, including awards, photographs, official documents, video records, and memorabilia capturing key milestones in the company’s journey.
Among the exhibits are historical items from the commissioning of the first ABC coach, the launch of Nigeria’s early modern transport terminals, the introduction of sleeper coach services, and the expansion into regional transport operations through Coach West Africa.
Over its 33 year history, ABC Transport Plc has recorded several landmark achievements that helped reshape Nigeria’s road transport industry. These include the introduction of cargo express services in 1996, sleeper coach operations in 1998, partnership with NIPOST in 1999, establishment of a driver training academy and early adoption of e ticketing systems in 2000, and commissioning of what was described as West Africa’s first ultra modern transport terminal in Abuja in 2001.
The company further expanded its footprint with major developments including the launch of regional routes under Coach West Africa in 2004, listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2006, the introduction of haulage and sprinter services in 2008, and the establishment of an undergraduate scholarship scheme in 2012.
More recent milestones include the rollout of trucks from its assembly line subsidiary in 2014, a corporate rebrand and cargo expansion in 2023, and the celebration of its 33rd anniversary alongside the launch of the archive centre in 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jude Nneji, described the archive centre as a strategic investment in institutional memory and leadership continuity. He said the facility was created not only to preserve history but also to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs, engineers, and transport professionals.
According to him, the archive centre serves as a living record of resilience, innovation, and vision, capturing the sacrifices and milestones that shaped the company’s journey from a single route operator to a diversified logistics brand.
The centre is also designed as an educational and research space, open to students, researchers, transport analysts, and members of the public interested in understanding the evolution of Nigeria’s transport industry through the lens of ABC Transport’s growth.
The unveiling event attracted pioneer employees, alumni staff, management executives, business partners, and family members who reflected on the company’s early beginnings and its expansion into a major industry player.
As ABC Transport Plc marks 33 years of operations, the company says it remains committed to innovation, safety, and service excellence while strengthening its role in shaping the future of mobility and logistics in Nigeria and across West Africa.
