Background and Industry Impact
This marks the third price reduction by Dangote Refinery in recent months, following cumulative cuts of ₦125 in February and ₦45 in April 2025. The refinery attributes these reductions to its commitment to supporting the Nigerian economy and alleviating consumer burdens amidst fluctuating global crude oil prices.
However, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) suggests that these price cuts are also a strategic move to assert dominance in the competitive downstream petroleum market.
Despite the announced reductions, reports indicate that some independent marketers are offering petrol at prices below Dangote’s revised rates, particularly in Lagos and parts of the South-West.
Consumers are encouraged to report any non-compliance with the new pricing to Dangote Refinery’s dedicated hotlines to ensure transparency and adherence across all retail outlets.
