Cargoplug, Nigeria’s top tech-driven cross-border logistics provider, has officially launched its first self-managed facility in the United Kingdom—a move aimed at addressing the increasing demands of its clientele and enhancing services across the Nigeria-UK corridor.
This strategic expansion deepens the company’s footprint in international logistics, promising faster deliveries, cost-effective solutions, and efficient air and sea freight services linking both nations and the wider European market.
Established in 2013 by Kikelomo Fola-Ogunniya and Ujama Akpata, the company—formerly known as Jand2Gidi—was created to tackle the everyday hurdles individuals and businesses encountered while shipping goods between Nigeria and the UK.
The founders built a service designed to bring transparency, affordability, speed, and reliability to cross-border logistics.
Over time, Cargoplug has grown beyond its original scope, leveraging proprietary technology to support both B2B and B2B2C clients.
Through seamless API integrations, the company collaborates with e-commerce platforms, global brands, and logistics firms, helping them offer enhanced shipping experiences to their end users. Its services encompass international pickups, customs clearance, insurance, and last-mile delivery across various sectors.
In the past 12 years, Cargoplug has successfully handled over a million packages, becoming a preferred logistics partner for rapidly scaling businesses in industries like fashion, manufacturing, construction, procurement, and oil services. The company is also a beneficiary of support from the Techstars D.C. Accelerator Program, in partnership with JP Morgan.
The newly established UK hub empowers Cargoplug to oversee its own operations, cutting delivery times and offering lower shipping rates from the UK. With trade activity and diaspora engagement between Nigeria and the UK on the rise—further encouraged by policies like the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP)—Cargoplug is well-positioned to meet growing demands.
Kikelomo Fola-Ogunniya, co-founder at Cargoplug, commented, “After over a decade of exponential growth through valued partnerships, we’re thrilled to launch our first self-run UK hub. This sees us doubling down on our commitment to being the go-to logistics firm for the movement of goods between the UK and Nigeria.
“This is a mission that originated after our firsthand experience of the challenges of costly, delayed, and opaque shipping fees, tariffs and processes after returning to Nigeria from studying in the UK.
“Establishing our on-the-ground presence here was the natural next step in our growth as a company, even as we now set sights on some of our other high traffic markets such as the US, Turkey and China.”
Co-founder Ujama Akpata added, “With our new UK hub, customers can now either drop off their goods, send them to us directly, or have us pick up from anywhere in the UK. We are now able to streamline operations and cut our prices, all while maintaining our reliable weekly Thursday dispatch and 7 to 10 working day delivery window. We look forward to better serving our growing customer base and delivering the trusted, seamless logistics experience Cargoplug is known for.”
This milestone marks a bold step forward for Cargoplug as it positions itself at the forefront of Afro-European logistics innovation, bridging markets and communities with precision and care.
