Nigeria and Brazil revitalised their bilateral relations by signing a renewed Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), marking a significant advancement in diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement was formalised in BrasÃlia by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.
This renewed BASA aims to establish direct flight operations between Nigeria and Brazil, a development anticipated to enhance connectivity, boost trade, and foster cultural exchange.
To expedite the implementation of the agreement, both ministers announced the formation of a joint technical working group tasked with drafting and harmonising the BASA for signature in the coming weeks.
This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on expanding regional connectivity and strengthening international partnerships. The direct air link is expected to facilitate increased tourism, trade, and investment opportunities between Africa and South America.
Beyond aviation, discussions between the two countries have also explored collaborations in agriculture, with a notable $2.5 billion ranching project aimed at revolutionising Nigeria’s livestock sector.
