Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has set up a TikTok account to discuss Nigerian politics and his new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai asked users to participate with him on political issues via videos, comments, and debates in an introduction video released on Wednesday. “This is my only and official TikTok page,” he told me.
“Please join me for films, comments, and discussions about Nigerian politics, as well as the activities of our new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Welcome aboard. El-Rufai’s TikTok page got a lot of attention in just 24 hours. At the time of this report, he had over 200,000 followers.
In his TikTok bio, the former governor calls himself a “accidental public servant, certified ruffler of feathers, and deliberate SDP member.” El-Rufai’s shift to TikTok comes after he resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the SDP on Monday.
He attacked the ruling party, accusing it of betraying its core ideals and putting personal financial gain before of governance.
“The APC has abandoned the principles that led to its establishment,” the politician claimed. “It’s abandoned the community. Everybody is doing their own thing. Everyone is searching for money. “The government has transformed into a business government.”
