The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), in partnership with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), is advancing the completion of the African Medical Center of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja.
This state-of-the-art 500-bed hospital will specialize in oncology, hematology, cardiology, and advanced medical training, aiming to enhance access to specialized healthcare services for Nigerians.
Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, on Saturday, explained the strategic investment during a stakeholders’ engagement with the National Assembly Press Corps in Abuja.
Soneye reiterated NNPCL’s dedication to national development and listed a number of projects that show the company’s determination to enhance people’s lives throughout Nigeria.
He emphasised the work of the NNPC Foundation, which has restored sight to numerous people in the Southwest by performing 1,000 free cataract procedures.
The AMCE is slated to commence operations in June 2025. By offering world-class medical treatment locally, the facility seeks to reduce Nigerians’ need for medical care abroad, thereby retaining the estimated $1.1 billion lost annually to outbound medical tourism.
This collaboration between NNPCL and Afreximbank underscores a strategic investment in Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, intending to provide high-quality medical services and training within the country.
