The Federal Government has announced plans to construct 7,000 new communication towers in rural areas to enhance telecommunications services and improve digital connectivity across the country.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed this initiative, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians, especially those in underserved areas, have meaningful access to quality telecommunication services.
This infrastructure development aligns with the administration’s broader goal of improving digital inclusion and economic opportunities for all citizens.
The new towers are expected to support the nation’s existing 90,000-kilometer fiber-optic cable network, enhancing 4G and 5G coverage across Nigeria.
In addition to the government’s efforts, Airtel Africa has pledged a $700 million investment over the next two years to boost Nigeria’s digital future further.
This collaboration between the public and private sectors aims to bridge the digital gap, particularly in rural areas where connectivity remains a challenge.
