The Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture (EYiA) program, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, is currently accepting applications for its upcoming cohort. This initiative aims to empower Nigerian youth, particularly young women, by providing comprehensive training in modern agricultural practices, focusing on technology-driven vegetable production.

Program Overview:

  • Training Focus: Participants will receive hands-on training in soilless farming techniques, including greenhouse farming and hydroponics. The curriculum also incorporates the use of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for precision agriculture, as well as integrated pest management strategies.

  • Structure: The program spans 12 weeks of intensive physical training at the project’s farm location in Awowo, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Participants will be grouped into clusters, with each group co-managing a hydroponic farm setup.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 29 years old for males, and 18 to 35 years old for females.

  • Interest: A genuine passion for vegetable cultivation (olericulture) is essential.

  • Availability: Commitment to the full 12-week on-site training is required.

  • Fitness: Applicants should be physically and mentally fit to work collaboratively in a farm setting.

  • Residency: Willingness to reside within the project location in Awowo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for the program’s duration.

  • Background: No criminal record.

  • Compliance: Readiness to adhere to all project rules and regulations.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Training: Gain in-depth knowledge of the vegetable production value chain and soilless farming methodologies.

  • Farm Setup Support: Access to farm setup kits and resources to establish and manage a hydroponic farm.

  • Market Access: Connection to off-takers to facilitate the sale of produce, ensuring immediate market integration.

  • Post-Training Mentorship: Ongoing support and mentorship to guide participants in scaling their agribusiness ventures.

Application Process:

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly, as selection operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The application process includes completing a form with personal details and training preferences. Upon successful submission, applicants will receive access to an introductory video on soilless farming techniques.

Important Note:

This training program is entirely free. The EYiA and its partners do not require any payment from applicants at any stage of the selection or training process.
