Airtel Nigeria has announced an increase in its data and call tariffs. This adjustment, which takes effect on February 17, 2025, follows the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) approval of a 50% tariff hike to help telecom operators manage escalating operational costs.

Revised Data Plans:

  • Daily Plans:

    • ₦50 for 40MB (valid for 1 day)
    • ₦100 for 100MB (valid for 1 day)
    • ₦200 for 200MB (valid for 3 days)
    • ₦350 for 1GB (valid for 1 day)
  • Weekly Plans:

    • ₦350 for 350MB (valid for 7 days)
    • ₦500 for 750MB plus 1GB YouTube Night and 200MB YouTube Music/Spotify (valid for 7 days)
    • ₦500 for 1GB plus 1GB YouTube Night and 50MB Socials (valid for 7 days)
    • ₦500 for 2GB (valid for 2 days)
  • Monthly Plans:

    • ₦2,000 for 3GB (previously 1.5GB at ₦1,200)
    • ₦2,500 for 4GB (formerly 3GB at ₦1,500)
    • ₦3,000 for 8GB (formerly 4.5GB at ₦2,000)
    • ₦4,000 for 10GB (formerly 6GB at ₦2,500)
    • ₦5,000 for 13GB (previously 10GB at ₦3,000)
    • ₦6,000 for 18GB (formerly 15GB at ₦4,000)
    • ₦8,000 for 25GB (replacing 18GB at ₦5,000)

Furthermore, the call prices offered by Airtel have gone up from about 18 kobo per second to 25 kobo per second.

Significant customer dissatisfaction has resulted from these changes, and many people have vented their grievances on social media. Airtel has responded by acknowledging the worries and claiming that the rate changes are required to maintain service quality in the face of growing operating costs.

Similar moves have been taken by other Nigerian telecom providers, such as MTN, who have also changed their rates after receiving approval from the NCC.
