President Bola Tinubu outwitted former President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, according to former Presidential Adviser Babafemi Ojudu.
He mentioned this on Monday when he spoke on Edmund Obilo’s State Affairs podcast.
According to Ojudu, Buhari had no support for Tinubu as his successor or his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo. Despite this, Tinubu used calculated strategies to win the APC ticket and, eventually, the president.
Ojudu, who was Buhari’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, said that Tinubu’s political savvy allowed him to successfully negotiate the intricacies of the primaries.
He emphasised that Tinubu’s success stemmed from his capacity to outsmart Buhari in a number of ways, which helped him become the party’s nominee and win the presidency.
He said: “I knew Osinbajo was going to lose the primary, I saw it coming.
“Because of the system we operated and still operating, I kept saying at our meeting that all of the efforts we are making like traveling around, convincing people, and addressing delegates is only 40 percent.
“60 percent of it lies in Buhari’s hands unless and until Buhari mobilizes people around him, the governors, his aides, we are going nowhere.
“I used to refer to Buhari as a one-man majority and he never mobilized his team towards Osinbajo and I think Tinubu outsmarted him in so many different ways.”
