Nigerian President Bola Tinubu was listed by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) as one of the most corrupt leaders in the world in 2024.

After receiving suggestions from all across the world, the OCCRP—a group of activists and investigative journalists—compiled this list of people who have made major contributions to corruption and organised crime.

According to some reports, President Tinubu was placed third, but according to others, he was ranked first.

President Tinubu’s claimed long-standing role in promoting systemic corruption in Nigeria serves as the foundation for the OCCRP’s evaluation.

This ranking has generated controversy and discussion both domestically in Nigeria and abroad. The rankings’ criteria were questioned by former Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani, who questioned its authenticity and possible prejudice against African leaders.

The annual list from the OCCRP seeks to highlight world leaders whose acts have exacerbated organised crime and corruption, negatively impacting their nations’ development and governance.

President Tinubu’s participation highlights persistent worries about Nigerian corruption and how it affects the country’s socioeconomic development.
