The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) predicts dust haze from Monday to Wednesday across the country. NiMet’s weather forecast provided on Sunday in Abuja forecasted moderate dust haze on Monday in the northern area, with visibility ranging from 2 km to 5 km. It predicts localised visibility of less than or equal to 1 km over the whole prediction period.

“The North Central states are predicted to have moderate dust haze with a visibility range of 2 km to 5 km with localised visibility of less than or equal to 1 km during the forecast period. NiMet predicted early morning mist or fog in the country’s south, as well as moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 2 km to 5 km, during the forecast period.

“Thick dust haze is likely in the northern region on Tuesday throughout the forecast period. The north-central region should experience moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 1 km to 3 km during the predicted period.

“In the southern parts of the country, early morning mist or fog is anticipated over the coastal cities while moderate dust haze with a visibility range of 1 km to 3 km is expected during the forecast period,” according to the statement.

NiMet predicts thick dust haze throughout the forecast period in the northern region on Wednesday. “North Central should be enveloped in a dense dust haze during the projected timeframe.

“In the southern sections of the country, early morning mist or fog is expected over coastal cities, while moderate dust haze with visibility ranging from 1 km to 3 km is expected throughout the forecast period. “Dust particles are suspended; the public should take the appropriate precautions.

“People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the current weather conditions,” it stated. It advised the public to comply to safety recommendations issued by relevant authorities and aircraft operators to receive airport-specific weather information (flight documentation) from NiMet for proper planning in their operations.
