NCC Tariff Increase Triggers Starlink Price Hike

Nigerian clients of the satellite internet service company Starlink will now pay much higher monthly prices, authorised by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Effective January 27, 2025, the basic monthly subscription will increase from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 for current clients. New subscribers will be billed at the new rates right away.

The price change is a part of Starlink’s continuous commitment to invest in infrastructure to improve service quality throughout Nigeria, the company said in an email to its consumers.

The business underlined its commitment to offering dependable, superior internet service and said the increased rates cover the expenses of these upgrades.

This development comes as there are hints that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) would soon approve the first general pricing rise for telecom companies in ten years. It is predicted that the changes will impact a number of services, such as data bundles, SMS fees, and call pricing.

Starlink had previously tried a similar price rise in October 2024, but it was halted after the NCC intervened, claiming that the required regulatory approval was not obtained.

Starlink’s recent price adjustment seems to be in line with the upcoming regulatory changes, indicating a coordinated response to the changing economic conditions in Nigeria’s telecom industry.

Customers are encouraged to keep up with the upcoming changes and evaluate their service options appropriately while the NCC makes its final decisions.
