On December 22, 2024, a tragic aeroplane disaster happened in Gramado, a well-liked vacation spot in southern Brazil.
All ten people on board a Piper PA-42-1000 Cheyenne 400LS died in a small plane crash that occurred shortly after departure from Canela Airport.
Along with nine family members, businessman Luiz Claudio Salgueiro Galeazzi, CEO of Galeazzi & Associados, piloted the aircraft. Unfortunately, none of the passengers survived.
Before landing next to a mobile phone store, the plane struck many buildings in the heart of Gramado, including a furniture store, a family home and the chimney of a building. Fires and serious structural damage resulted from this series of impacts.
Two people were reported in serious condition out of the 17 people injured on the ground in the incident. Debris from the subsequent fires and smoke inhalation were blamed for many of these injuries.
The accident may have been caused in part by the fog and cloudy skies that were present in Gramado at the time of the collision. The precise cause is still being looked at, though.
To ascertain the causes of the disaster, Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Centre (CENIPA) has launched a comprehensive investigation.
In addition to expressing his sympathies to the relatives of the victims, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underlined the government’s dedication to determining what caused the disaster.
