The recently authorised $500 million World Bank loan will benefit at least 25 state governments, enhancing water resource management for irrigation and hydropower.
As part of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria project, the Federal Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank on Tuesday through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Ministry of Power.
Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, and Prof. Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, attended the signing event.
Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Power on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, signed a statement in Abuja revealing the most recent development.
Niger, Gombe, Sokoto, Enugu, Bauchi, Cross River, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Kebbi, Plateau, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Abia, Kwara, Imo, Taraba, Kano, Delta, Osun, Jigawa, Edo, Kogi, and Katsina are among the states.
According to the statement, the program intends to increase hydropower and irrigation systems across the country, improve water resource management, and improve dam safety.
