The National Examinations Council (NECO) has approved more international schools to take the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The examinations authority noted that the action was part of its determination to spread its horizons and grow its global presence, and that the newly authorised institutions, in addition to the existing ones, are in the Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea.

Acting Head of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, stated on Saturday that the NECO Accreditation Team visited the schools to examine their preparation to write the SSCE and BECE.

“The accrediting team evaluated classrooms, labs, libraries, computer laboratories, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities to ensure their readiness for NECO exams. “Following a rigorous study and extensive assessment, the schools received full SSCE and BECE accreditation. “The certification of more overseas schools demonstrates NECO’s commitment to offer quality education and assessment outside the borders of Nigeria.

“With its expanding global presence, NECO is poised to become a leading examination body in Africa, offering opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise, thus contributing to the advancement of education in Africa and beyond,” according to him.

In another development, he stated that “Candidates are participating in the on-going NECO SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic.” “The UNHCR School in Diffa, Niger Republic, is the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.

It should be noted that NECO exams are now written by candidates in Benin Republic, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he added.
