Households have forecast significant prices of rent and medical service prices, among other things, while expressing pessimism about October 2024. Their estimate was included in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) October Consumers Expectation Survey Report. However, households planned to spend their income on necessities such as food and education.
The CBN stated that the overall consumer outlook for October 2024 is pessimistic. Overall, the trend indicates a pattern of cautious confidence about inflation forecasts. “More consumers expect that the cost of travel, house buying, car/vehicle purchase, rent, and medical expenses will rise during the next six months, in the following order.
“Households expect to spend their income on essential needs such as food and other home items, education, transportation, power, and medical bills throughout all time periods examined. However, they do not aim to spend a significant amount of their income on items such as house or car/vehicle purchases during the review period.”
Meanwhile, employers and individuals expect inflation to drop in the coming six months. This was announced in the CBN’s October Inflation Expectation Survey Report.
According to the CBN, respondents believe the current inflation rate is high, citing energy costs as the source of this opinion. The CBN stated that the majority of respondents thought the current inflation rate is high.
