The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Iweala, has denied claims that she helped the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) obtain a $57.5 billion loan. Simon Ekpa, who identifies himself the BRGIE Prime Minister, makes these assertions. Following a planned declaration of Biafra on December 2, 2024, Ekpa had stated that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had both agreed to lend money to the BRGIE for the formation of a new government.

Ekpa also acknowledged Okonjo-Iweala’s assistance in obtaining the financing. Okonjo-Iweala swiftly refuted the assertion, though, using her official X (formerly Twitter) account. She condemned the accusations as wholly untrue and encouraged people to refrain from abusing her name in her statement.

She wrote: “I know no reasonable person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but it is important to underscore that the statement is false in these troubled times,” she wrote.

Once more, I urge anyone attempting to abuse my name to stop! Okonjo-Iweala stressed that such false information should not be used to deceive the public. Ekpa disputes the post. Simon Ekpa linked the message to nonentities in a different tweet, denying publishing the purported statement.

We have been tweeting about the terrorism against your people, and you have never replied or expressed regret, he claims. “I never tweeted such, and it is even surprising that you can tweet this because your name was mentioned.”

Despite being silent about all the murders committed by the government you worked for, you are here defending what nonentities did with your name. Despite the fact that they are photoshopped, I commend you for consistently standing up for yourself and your morals. It demonstrates that you are a true mother. I appreciate your self-defence, but I never tweeted anything like that; it’s phoney and untrue.
