The Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, have experienced a fire. A spark from a malfunctioning ground floor circuit breaker was blamed for the incident, which happened just after staff returned to their jobs on Friday. However, it was swiftly contained before much harm could be done.
Mohammed A. Ahmed, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, confirmed the occurrence, saying, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry.” A spark from a malfunctioning circuit breaker in the ground level electrical control room caused the event.
Mr. Kekai Bekebi, Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal Ministry of Works, Headquarters, told me that his team responded quickly and used the fire extinguishers that were on hand to handle the situation. He also mentioned that a staff evacuation drill was completed successfully.
“No document loss, injuries, or casualties were reported,” said Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi, Director of Human Resource Management, who also praised the team for their overall behaviour during the incident. Since then, maintenance workers have returned to their regular tasks of clearing the debris and rearranging other things.
