The international oil business Shell Development business is the target of a lawsuit brought by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) regarding an N4 billion debt that resulted from using its pipes to transport crude and processed petroleum products.
Mr. Bola Oyebimiji, Managing Director of NIWA, states that since Shell withdrew from its offshore operations, prompt action is required to collect the debt. Oyebimiji underlined that NIWA has contacted the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to work with the Ministry of Energy to address the issue, having exhausted all other options for a cooperative solution.
Oyebimiji declared, “We are suing Shell for their debts.” We have to get our money back from their divestment before they depart. He pointed out that after his predecessor’s failed attempts to settle the issue, NIWA was forced to take legal action.
This move is a component of NIWA’s continuous efforts to resolve its debt problems with several oil firms. The organisation aims to pay off its debts and guarantee that businesses in the industry fulfil their financial commitments.
