Deji Adeyanju, an activist and attorney, has applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for initiating an inquiry into claims that certain officials there received a bribe from Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on social media in order to drop a money laundering charge.
In a voicenote allegedly belonging to Bobrisky, another well-known social media figure and activist named VeryDarkMan revealed that the rapper had been requested to pay N15 million to have his money laundering accusation against him dropped. Bobrisky has refuted any knowledge of making such a disclosure, characterising it as untrue data that ought to be ignored.
In an attempt to elucidate the allegations, the anti-graft bureau has now extended invitations to both VeryDarkMan and Bobrisky. Adeyanju praised the EFCC in a letter: “I applaud the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for promptly pledging to look into the bribery claims made against some EFCC personnel by Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky.
“These are significant allegations that require careful consideration. They concern the collection of N15 million to dismiss charges of money laundering.
“The EFCC’s swift action suggests that it is likely committed to professionalism and integrity. If the culprits are proved to be guilty, I implore the Commission to guarantee a thorough inquiry and hold them accountable. “The public’s confidence in the EFCC’s mission to combat corruption would be strengthened by this.
“Preserving public trust requires accountability and transparency.” I urge the EFCC to update the public on the status and conclusions of the inquiry. “I think this inquiry is essential to maintaining the rule of law and fighting corruption in Nigeria.”
