The Osun State Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has spent over N2 billion on micro projects in various communities within the state.
Mrs. Funmi Abokede, General Manager of the State’s Community and Social Development Agency, stated at a media engagement event held on Monday at the Ben-Ber Foundation Hall in Osogbo that the fund would give basic and social amenities to the state’s urban and rural development regions.
According to her, the agency’s projects are inclusive because they address the needs of all stakeholders, including people with disabilities.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke has been really supportive. Since taking office as governor, the state government has committed around N2 billion to the completion of over 267 microprojects across the state. The developments also contained amenities to address the issues that people with disabilities encounter.”
The General Manager emphasised that the agency’s Osun Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (Osun-CARES) program prioritised water, education, healthcare, and sanitation. Abokede noted that the agency has established a place for persons with impairments to demonstrate their values and abilities in various trades.
She stated, “Osun State is the only state in Nigeria that has a centre for people with disabilities.” We have a centre in Edunabon, and some states have visited to emulate our ideas.”
She warned communities working in micro-projects across the state to cultivate a culture of maintenance and sustainability so that the projects would last and benefit everyone.
