The ongoing exams for the second semester at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, have been postponed by the administration. The school administration announced on Wednesday that the papers that were supposed to be taken this week on Thursday and Friday had been rescheduled.

The administration of the organisation claimed in a statement issued by Head of the Communication Unit Alhaja Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem that the move was taken in reaction to the nationwide demonstration scheduled for this Thursday, August 1, of this year.

“Members of the University Community are now encouraged to stay calm, safe, and security conscious at all sites in light of reports of the planned demonstration set for Thursday, August 1, 2024.

“Due to the ongoing Second Semester, 2023/2024 examinations, management has implemented precautionary steps to protect your safety, security, and well-being on all three of our university’s campuses.

“Please take note that all exams planned for August 1, 2024, Thursday, have been postponed till further notice. In due course, a revised schedule for every paper that was originally scheduled for these two days will be released.

In a similar vein, it is critical to emphasise that everyone has a stake in security. As a result, everyone in the university community is encouraged to carry out their regular business as usual and to report anything or anyone they believe to be suspicious to the Security Unit by email at securityunit@unilag.edu.ng or cso@unilag.edu.ng.

“The University acknowledges that citizens have the right to peaceful, legal assembly. Nonetheless, both offline and online, members of the university community—especially staff and students—are kindly asked to maintain their decorum, discipline, and responsibility in their speech and actions.I’m grateful.
