Suleiman Rabi’u Bichi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the former director general of the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign in Kano State, urged students in the northern region on Tuesday to apply for the student loan program that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has launched, stating that loans are not prohibited by Islam.
This was in response to his advice to the students to utilise the loan program rather than fall behind in the endeavour. This was said by Bichi, who also serves as the former Secretary of the Kano State government, at a session designed to educate the state’s youth about the program.
The longest verse in the Holy Quran, in his opinion, is one that discusses loans. It enables loan acceptance. In Islam, lending is permissible and halal. In actuality, the borrower receives a larger compensation from the lender than from the charity. This realisation, in my opinion, is what has caused our people to miss out on a lot of chances.
However, it is halal and acceptable. The rule is to never take out a loan if you are unable to repay it. The people creating issues are those who take out loans with the goal of not repaying them. I’m not sure where the people who said that you couldn’t take out a loan obtained their own reading of the Quran.
“Our goal is to raise awareness among our students about the newly enacted student loan program, which was provided by Mr. President Bola Tinubu. “We found that some of our students are unaware of the program, and those who are, don’t know how to apply for the loan.” Seeing as how many students stand to gain from this student loan program, we made the decision to gather post-secondary students and inform them of Mr. President’s prospects in order for them to apply for and take advantage of the program.
In contrast, Yahaya Usman, the Director General of the APC Students Council, praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for launching the loan program, which aims to support students in realising their dreams, while speaking to students. “We will take the sensitisation step by step on how to apply; for those not around, we will go to their houses and their parents and inform them about this scheme,” Bichi said.
But in his speech to the students, Yahaya Usman, the Director General of the APC Students Council, praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for launching the loan program, which aims to help students realise their ambitions. As a result, he said that the party had planned the sensitisation campaign to inform Kano State’s higher education students about the significance of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and how to apply for a loan.
Fa’izu Alfindiki, the recently retired Council Chairman of the Kano Municipal Local Government, encouraged the students to seize the moment by making sure they submit an application for the NELFUND. He praises the APC-led administration’s vision and dedication to bringing the educational sector back to even greater heights.
