Detectives looking into the death of Nick Imudia, the former CEO of the massive Nigerian e-commerce company Konga, have turned their attention to his business associates in an attempt to determine what caused him to take his own life.
Nick Imudia is believed to have committed suicide in his flat in the Coconut groove Victoria Island area of Lagos state. According to police sources at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Lagos, he is a very gregarious, busy, and always cheerful man who readily mingled with friends and associates. As such, it has become necessary to concentrate on his business interests and partners.
Sources who requested complete anonymity claimed that “his business was booming and he showed no signs of desolation or abandonment.” The story that he called his brother overseas and his daughter before taking his own life suggests that he may have been deeply unsettled by a sudden turnabout in his economic endeavours or a domestic issue.
“We are trying to get to know his business associates and close friends so that we can invite them for more information that will help us determine whether he just committed suicide or his death was prompted by an act. He must have been shocked by a yet-to-be-known issue, which made him take such a decision.”
It was seen that no one had been questioned regarding his passing. In addition, the building’s tenants remain incensed over the incident; some of them even assert that they were unaware of the deceased’s identity until his passing. The locality is called Victoria Island, not Lekki as several media sites have claimed, and the flat is called Coconut Groove.
Everyone is acting appropriately in the recreation area surrounding the apartment. The structure was a collection of apartment buildings owned by several people. Additionally, the building’s entrance was flanked by palm trees and that it was painted a cream colour.
According to a source, additional research indicated that most of the residents of the property frequently drive in with tinted windows, making it difficult to identify everyone living there. However, rumours circulated that the late Imudia leaped from the apartment complex where his apartment was located on the second level.
Furthermore, it was unable to determine whether he left a suicide note to support the theory that he took his own life. However, investigators stated that they were working nonstop to determine whether or not he actually committed suicide. According to a security official who talked under anonymity, the deceased was a giving man who would frequently give money to him and his colleagues when he drove in.
“We have been advised not to discuss what happened with strangers as the investigation is still ongoing,” he stated. There have been two police visits to the scene. They questioned a few residents of the apartments about what had transpired. However, the majority of them were inside when the catastrophe occurred.
The duration of Imudia’s stay at the Coconut Groove Apartment could not be determined, as information obtained from sources indicated that he relocated to Nairobi, Kenya in October 2022 to take up a position as CEO of delight. He probably didn’t spend much time at the flat before passing away on June 25, 2024.
It was reported that Imudia spoke with his brother in the United States of America just before he passed away, giving instructions on how to divide his fortune in the event of his death. Additionally, he was reported to have told his young daughter that he would always be there for her. Benjamin Hudenyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, stated that the inquiry was still ongoing when contacted.
