At the Musée d’Orsay on Saturday, a climate activist stuck an adhesive poster to a Monet painting. The woman was arrested even though she claimed she was trying to spread awareness about climate change.

A supporter of sustainable food production in response to the climate issue, Riposte Alimentaire (Food Response) is a group of environmental activists that performed the prank. The group has been protesting at museums all around Europe for years; the most recent was last month at the Louvre.

According to the Guardian, the activist was seen on X placing an adhesive red, desolate landscape over Claude Monet’s 1873 painting Coquelicots, stating that “this nightmarish image awaits us if no alternative is put in place.”

The artwork of the French Impressionist shows people strolling across a field of blossoming poppies while carrying umbrellas. It wasn’t shielded by glass like Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, which has received a lot of criticism.
